Cudy Router LED Colors: What They Mean

Short answer: Most Cudy routers use a small set of status LEDs: power, internet or WAN, LAN, and Wi-Fi. A solid green power LED usually means the router is on and ready. A blinking internet LED normally indicates WAN traffic, while a red or off internet light often means the modem or ISP link is down. A blinking Wi-Fi LED shows wireless activity, and an off Wi-Fi LED can mean the radio is disabled. If the power LED is off or blinking continuously, check power and consider a factory reset.

Cudy Router LEDs at a Glance

Cudy routers use status LEDs to give you a quick view of the hardware state. You do not need to open the mobile app or log into the web interface for a basic health check. The exact set of lights varies by model, but most Cudy routers have a labeled row of LEDs near the front or top.

The most useful LEDs on a home Cudy router are the power LED, the internet LED, the Wi-Fi LEDs, and the LAN port LEDs. Models with a cellular modem, such as 4G or 5G routers, may add a SIM or signal LED. When you are not sure what a light means, check the label next to the LED or look for the quick start guide for your model.

Power LED: Off, Solid and Blinking

On most Cudy routers, a solid green power LED is the normal running state. It means the router has power and has finished booting. A blinking power LED during startup is also normal for a few seconds while the router loads its firmware. If the power LED is still blinking after a short time, the router may not have booted correctly.

If the power LED is completely off, check the power adapter, the wall outlet, and the power connection at the back of the router. Try another outlet as a simple test. If the LED still does not come on, the router may need service or replacement. If you notice smoke, a burning smell, or damage, unplug the router and stop using it. The CPSC publishes safety education resources that cover fire and electrical safety in the home.

For a boot problem after a power check, a factory reset often clears a stuck state. Before resetting, save any custom settings if you can. If the router still will not boot, see Router Won't Turn On? Power Issues Explained.

Internet LED: Green, Red, Blinking or Off

The internet LED on a Cudy router is usually labeled Internet, WAN, or with a globe icon. It reports the status of the WAN connection between the router and your modem or ISP. A solid green or blue internet LED normally means the WAN link is up and the router has an internet connection.

A blinking internet LED usually means data is moving across the WAN link. That is normal during downloads, video calls, or any active internet use. If the LED blinks but devices cannot load pages, the issue is often upstream: the modem may be offline, the ISP may have an outage, or the WAN cable may be loose.

A red internet LED, or an internet LED that is off, is the clearest fault signal on a Cudy router. It usually means the WAN port is not receiving a usable signal. Start by reseating the Ethernet cable between the router and modem. Then power cycle both the modem and the router. If the LED stays red, test the cable with another device. For more steps, see WAN Port Not Working.

Some Cudy 4G and 5G routers show internet status from the cellular modem instead of a wired WAN port. On those models, a blinking signal LED can indicate searching for a network, and a red signal LED can indicate no SIM detected or no mobile coverage. See 4G and 5G Home Routers Explained.

Wi-Fi LED: Wireless Status and Activity

The Wi-Fi LED on a Cudy router usually appears as a radio wave icon, sometimes split for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. On dual-band routers, each band may have its own LED. A solid Wi-Fi LED means the wireless radio is on. A blinking Wi-Fi LED means data is being transmitted or received over Wi-Fi.

If the Wi-Fi LED is off, the wireless radio is likely disabled. This can happen if you pressed the Wi-Fi button on the router, disabled Wi-Fi in the app, or scheduled Wi-Fi to turn off. Check the router's Wi-Fi schedule and make sure the radio is enabled. If the Wi-Fi LED stays off after enabling it, the radio may be faulty.

For help with wireless issues related to the LED state, see How to Turn Off or Dim Router LED Lights.

LAN LED: Ethernet Port Status

Cudy routers also have an LED for each Ethernet LAN port. These lights are usually near the Ethernet ports themselves. A solid LAN LED means a device is connected to that port. A blinking LAN LED means traffic is passing between the router and the connected device.

If a LAN LED is off but a device is connected, check the Ethernet cable and try another port on the router. If the LED for a specific port stays off with multiple cables, that port may be damaged. You can still use the other LAN ports. For a port that is connected but has no link, see Ethernet Port Not Working? What to Check First.

Which Light Patterns Mean a Fault

A few LED patterns are worth learning because they point to common faults. A power LED that is off when the router is plugged in usually means no power. A power LED that blinks continuously after startup usually means the router is stuck or failed to boot. A red internet LED or an internet LED that is off usually means no WAN link. A Wi-Fi LED that is off when you expect Wi-Fi to work usually means the radio is disabled.

When you see a fault pattern, start with the simplest fix: power cycle the router, check cables, and then check the ISP. Do not factory reset unless the power or firmware is clearly the problem. A reset should be a later step. If the router is under warranty, contact Cudy support before opening the case.

Which Cudy Router Should You Pick?

Cudy makes routers for different uses, from compact travel models to Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 home routers. LED behavior does not change the performance of the router, but knowing the lights helps you confirm that the hardware is healthy before you start optimizing speed or coverage.

If you want a dual-band router for a typical home, look at the best dual-band routers guide. For Wi-Fi 6 performance, see best wi-fi 6 routers. For the newest Wi-Fi 7 hardware, see best wi-fi 7 routers. If you need a travel router with Cudy LEDs that double as status indicators, see best travel routers.

Questions

What does a red internet LED on my Cudy router mean?

A red internet LED usually means the WAN port is not receiving a usable signal from your modem or ISP. Check the Ethernet cable between the router and modem, power cycle both devices, and contact your ISP if the light stays red.

Why is my Cudy router's Wi-Fi LED off?

An off Wi-Fi LED usually means the wireless radio is disabled. This can happen if you pressed the Wi-Fi button, disabled Wi-Fi in the app, or scheduled Wi-Fi to turn off. Check the Wi-Fi settings and schedule, then enable the radio.

Is it normal for the internet LED to blink?

Yes. A blinking internet LED normally means data is moving across the WAN link. It is expected during downloads, streaming, video calls, and other internet activity. If the LED blinks but you have no internet, the issue is usually upstream.

What should I do if the power LED on my Cudy router is off?

Check the power adapter, the wall outlet, and the power connection at the router. Try another outlet. If the LED still does not come on, the router may need service or replacement.

Do all Cudy routers use the same LED colors?

Most Cudy routers use green and red LEDs, but the exact set of lights and labels can vary by model. Check the label next to each LED and your router's quick start guide for the specific pattern on your model.
